TUTORIAL VIDEOS

Dear all,

I have just finished the first 3 of a series of guitar tutorial videos that are now available on Youtube. The videos are based on my own songs and playing techniques. The first one is a breakdown of the title tack from my second album Storyteller (1991). The second one focuses on hybrid picking technique, loosely based on the track Runnin´ Moonshine from my Redhanded album (2001) as well as some banjo-roll exercises. The third shows examples of the Two-finger-upside-down playing method that I have worked on a lot in later years and is used for instance on the classical guitar-inspired piece Baroque Amoque from Beast Of Bergen (2020).

The Rolling Clones will do 3 shows at Madam Felle´s on the weekend 26th and 27th of May. In addition to evening shows starting at 21:30 Friday and Saturday  there will also be a "breakfast show" on Saturday at 14:00.
Special guest on the evening shows will be singer Linda Ekeland.

The Rolling Clones did 3 shows at Madam Felle´s in November 2022 that focused on the Exile In Main St album and they were all sold out well in advance

THE FINAL SHOW ON THE FINAL ROUND IN BERGEN AT DECEMBER 17

Dear All,

On December 17 Chris Thompson and our band (Frank Hovland: bass, Gunnar Bjelland: keys and Zsolt Meszaros: drums) will do the very last show of The Final Round tour in Madam Felle´s in Bergen. The original idea was to have the last show in Germany, where we have played a lot over the years, but Chris felt it would make sense to do the final show in Bergen, home of all the band members and where it all started in 2001 at the Ole Blues Festival (now Bergenfest). It will be an afternoon show, starting at 14.00.

OCT/NOV 2022: STONES GIGS

THREE SHOWS WITH THE ROLLING CLONES AT MADAM FELLE´S

The Rolling Clones celebrate the 50th anniversary for the legendary Exile On Main Street album with 3 concerts at Madam Felles. There will be evening shows on Friday Nov 25 and Saturday Nov 26 starting at 21:30 both nights, and in addition there will be an afternoon show at 14:00 on Sat 26.
The Clones will play 10 songs from Exile along with obligatory Stones standards.
Special guests this evening will be singer Linda Ekeland and hornmen Arve Sunde (sax) and Morten Odeen (trombone) .

MAY 2022: THE FINAL ROUND - IN BERGEN (UPDATED)

MAY 13:
A complete list of The Final Round tour dates confirmed so far have been added in concerts

MAY 4:
Chris Thompson and Mads Eriksen Band will play 4 shows at Madam Felle, Bergen, as part of the Final Round Tour. Chris Thompson has announced that he will retire from the live scene after this year, so this will be the last chance to see CT/ MEB live in Bergen. It will also mark the ending of their May shows at MF that has been an annual tradition since 2005, often with a guest star that has included Fish ( ex- Marillion frontman ), Midge Ure ( Ultravox ), Nik Kershaw, Leo Sayer, Torstein Flakne ( Stage Dolls ) and Bård Ose ( TV and radio personality ).

The concerts will be on May 6/7 and 13/14. Hope to see you there!

MARCH 2022: ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Chris Thompson with Mads Eriksen are back on the road after an over 2-year hiatus from playing live. They will start off in Germany this weekend with shows at the Genusswerkstatt in Haigern Friday March 4 and Kulturzentrun Dieseltrasse in Esslingen on Saturday March 5.

OCT 2021: 30 YEARS AGO!

IT WAS 30 YEARS AGO TODAY!!

On October 19 1991 Mads Released his second solo album Storyteller. It is his most critically acclaimed and commercially successful album to date and became his first international release. It was distributed all over Europe through the German record company MGI.

Storyteller was selected as Album Of The Month in the June 1992 edition of Guitar For The Practicing Musician, then the biggest guitar magazine in America. As we can see, a certain Eric Clapton took a highly respectable second place.

SEPT 2021: MADS AT BLUES FESTIVAL

Mads will play at the Lokst Utøve Blues Festival in Odda (NOR) on Saturday September 18 with Spoonful Of Stones, the band that specialises in the very early Rolling Stones blues material. The other band members are Bård Ose (vocals, harmonica), Knut Hem (drums) and Notodden blues champions Jostein Forsberg (vocals, harmonica), Morten Omlid (guitar) and Bård Gunnar Moe (bass).

MAY 2021: MADS PLAYS "RUBY TUESDAY"

Mads plays his solo guitar arrangement of the Rolling Stones classic. It is also featured on his latest album Beast of Bergen. On the video Mads plays his trusty old Takamine EN-65 gut string acoustic guitar, purchased at Gitarverkstedet ("The Guitar Workshop") in 1984 when Mads worked there as a shop assistant alongside gurus Henry "Henki" Urhaug, founder of Eugen guitars, and Frank Hovland.

JULY 2020: NEW ALBUM!

NEW ALBUM FROM MADS «BEAST OF BERGEN» TO BE RELEASED ON AUGUST 28!

Mads’ ninth soloalbum «Beast Of Bergen» will be out on August 28 on MTG Music. It is Mads’ first album in ten years. His latest album «Just What The World Needs» received high critical acclaim and got a five-stars-out-of-five review in Guitar Techniques (UK) and became his second album to be selected Album Of The Month in a world-leading guitar magazine, the first one being «Storyteller» in the June 1992 edition of Guitar For The Practicing Musician (US).

Mads’ solo record career started 30 years ago with the album «Journey».

The album is produced by Frank Hovland, who also contributes lead vocals on two tracks. In addition to Hovland, who plays bass and percussion, the album features Zsolt Meszaros on drums and Gunnar Bjelland on keyboards.

The album contains 9 new songs and an acoustic version of the Rolling Stones classic «Ruby Tuesday».

FEB 2020: CONCERTS PLANNED FOR 2020

Hi all,
a very belated «Happy New Year»!! Just wanted to inform you about some of the activities for 2020: As you might have noticed, Chris Thompson, with whom I have had the privilege of playing and recording with since 2001, has decided to retire from the concert scene in 2022. Chris contributed his extraordinary vocals to 4 songs on my Redhanded album (2001) and since then we have done up to 50 shows a year, mainly in Germany, but also Norway, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland and Spain. Me and the band went to Chris’ country of origin New Zealand in 2003 and recorded a bunch of music there. Since then I have been on three Chris Thompson live DVD/CDs.
We will do as many concerts as we possibly can over the next two years, and we already have quite a few confirmed for 2020 and even 2021 already.

In addition to that, there will be gigs with The Rolling Clones and Spoonful Of Stones.

I am in the finishing stages on my next solo album «Beast Of Bergen». Further details will follow soon!

The Rolling Clones will do their last show of the year at Iris Scene in Odda (NOR) tomorrow night, Friday December 14 at 22:00. They will play the whole Sticky Fingers album and also a good bunch of Stones Classics.
Next up for the Clones are concerts on January 18 and 19 at Madam Felle’s, Bergen.
Other activities for next year are soon to be annouced.

The Rolling Clones invites to "Bleeding Fingers" - The Stones party of the year!

On November 17 and 18 The Rolling Clones will play two classic Stones albums in their entirety at the Chagall in Bergen: Let It Bleed on Friday 17th and Sticky Fingers on Saturday 18th. They will of course also play a bunch of other Stones classics. Both shows starts at 21.00.

For maximum mid-70s authenticity, Mads has purchased a replica of the handmade 5-string guitar used by the Stones on their 1975/76 worldtour. The guitar will be debuted on The Rolling Clones' gigs at Madam Felle's this weekend!

Chris Thompson/Mads Eriksen Band ready for 4 shows at Madam Felle's in May - 3 with special guest Nik Kershaw!!

For the twelth year in a row Chris Thompson and Mads Eriksen Band take the stage at Madam Felle's in May, this time for 4 shows on May 4,5,6 and 7. On the last 3 shows they will be joined on stage by the great artist Nik Kershaw and thereby following up the tradition of having a special guest, which in previous years have included Midge Ure, Fish and Leo Sayer.

Mads on Raga Rockers tribute compilation

Mads is among numerous Norwegian artists who pay homage to the legendary Norwegian rock band Raga Rockers on a 6-Cd compilation package called "Sannhet på boks". The project was initiated by Christer Falck. Mads: - I got an e-mail from Christer Falck where he asked me to participate in the project with a version of the RR song Aiellos riff and " show everything I know on the guitar in two minutes"! I found that irresistable - how many times will anyone ask you to do that? (took me nearly 3 minutes though...)
The track is produced by Frank Hovland who also plays bass. Zsolt Meszaros on drums.

The Rolling Clones will give a special show at Logen, Bergen on Saturday December 19. Inspired by the Stones' recent Zip Code tour in the U.S., The Rolling Clones will play the Sticky Fingers album in it's enterity along with all the other wonderful Stones standards. The show starts 21:00.

23/04 2015: CD COMPILATION

"Jukebox", a new 2-CD compilation that celebrates Chris Thompson's 40-year recording artist career is out now and features Mads on lead guitar on 11 tracks. Most of the songs are from the Live In Berlin sessions in 2010, but two Thompson/Eriksen-penned tracks, "Land Of The Long White Cloud" and "Whole Lot To Give", are also included. The songs were recorded in New Zealand in 2003.

05/08 2014: WORKSHOP WITH STEFAN GROSSMAN

Mads Eriksen Gitarskole proudly announce a new workshop with acoustic guitar maestro Stefan Grossman in Bergen on Friday September 5 and Saturday September 6. The workshop will be held in Agnes Mowinkelsgt. 5 in the city of Bergen. This is the fourth time Grossman visits Bergen to give a workshop.
 
The WS will take place from 17:00 until 21:00 on the Friday and from 10:00 until 16:00 on the Saturday. True to tradition, we will serve a warm Thai lunch on the Saturday and coffe, tea and cool refreshments throughout the WS.
 
Stefan Grossman is one of the finest exponents of the acoustic steel string guitar and have worked with some of the biggest names in popular music ( Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Simon etc. ). He has released numorous tutorial books, CDs and DVDs and specialises in fingerpicking blues, rags and other forms of traditional music.

seems highly unlikely in Bergen this weekend, as they are expecting 100mm of rain on the Friday alone, but never the less: at Madam Felle Katrina Leskanich (ex-Katrina and the Waves) and Nick Van Eede (Cutting Crew) will follow up last years successful concerts on March 7 and 8, starting at 22.30 both nights. Mads will play guitar on Katrina's set (Nick brings his own guitarist Gareth Mouldon).

Frank Hovland (bass), Gunnar Bjelland (keys) and Zsolt Meszaros (drums) will be backing both artists.

Chris Thompson/Mads Eriksen Band plays at Madam Felle's in Bergen on May 2 and 3, and true to traditon they have a guest on the show. We are proud to announce that frontman of the legendary Britsh band Ultravox, the great Midge Ure, will join in on the shows this year that mark the 10th anniversary for CT/MEB annual spring gigs at the club.
 
Midge Ure is also known for his cooporation with other big acts, most notably Thin Lizzy. He is highly respected for his charity work, which involves co-organising the Band Aid and Live Aid events, and is ambassador for Save The Children.
 
Earlier guest have been Leo Sayer, Fish (ex-Marillion), Katrina Leskanich (Katrina and the Waves), Nick Van Eede (Cutting Crew), Torstein Flakne (Stage Dolls) and Bård Ose (journalist and singer).

BÅRD OSE GUEST AT THIS WEEKEND'S MADAM FELLE SHOWS

Acclaimed music journalist and singer Bård Ose will be the guest at this years shows at Madam Felle's, Bergen with Chris Thompson and Mads Eriksen Band. In addition to join in on some songs, he will be the host of the evening and have an opening which probably will include an interview with Chris.

Bård Ose is famous from a series of radio shows on NRK, the most popular one might be "P.I.L.S" where he together with Finn Tokvam delivers a humerous program that includes music and band anecdotes and funfacts. He has also written books on The Beatles and The Rolling Stones - the latter has drawn praise from Mick Jagger himself. But most important of all, of course - he's in The Rolling Clones together with Mads.

CHRIS THOMPSON/MADS ERIKSEN AT SKÅNEVIK BLUES FESTIVAL - HEADLINER ON THURSDAY JULY 4 SHOW

Chris Thompson/Mads Eriksen Band will be back at Skånevik Blues Festival (NOR) this year - hardly a surprise, last years performance in front of an audience of around 1500 people was largely succesful. The Skånevik Blues Festival is one of the biggest of it's kind in Norway - over the years artists like ZZ Top, Johnny Winter, Gary Moore, Journey and Foreigner have visited the festival. We will bring details of more festivals this summer and touring plans for the fall very soon.

NEW WORKSHOP WITH STEFAN GROSSMAN IN BERGEN - CONCERT WITH GROSSMAN AND MADS AT MADAM FELLE'S

Mads Eriksen's Guitar School proudly announces that they for the third time will organise a workshop with the legendary Stefan Grossman, one of the worlds foremost exponents of the acoustic guitar. Grossman will share his wisdom on two consecutive days, Friday the 12 and Saturday the 13th of April. On Thursday April 11 Grossman and Mads will give a concert at Bergen's Madam Felle's. Stefan Grossman has worked with a lot of the biggest name in pop and rock history, and is also a highly celebrated teacher who has released numerous tutorial books and videos. He specialises in fingerpicking blues, rags and other forms of traditional American music. Grossman is also known for his long collaboration with another legendary player, John Renbourne, who was co-instructor at the workshop in Bergen in 2010. Want to join in at the workshop? Inspired by the highly succesful 30th anniversary shows at Bergen club Madam Felle's in December where they broke the attendence record on the Saturday 15 show, The Rolling Clones are booked for another two shows on April 5 and 6. So all of you hundreds of people who had to go home in disappointment after being turned away from the two sold-out shows before Christmas, grab the opportunity!

Hi All,
 
2012 is coming to an end and it's time once again to say a big thank you to everyone who has listened to my music. come to our concerts and posted kind comments. This year has been packed with great events - the tour in Germany in October with Chris Thompson, during which I celebrated my 50th birthday, leaps to mind - all the gigs felt great and the audience were fantastic. A special thank you to Michael and Stepanie from Reil who came to several shows and gave me a really wonderful photo album that they had made with pictures from all our shows in the area over the years.
 
I'm looking very much forward coming back to Germany, there's some confirmed dates already and there might be another in April/May - details will follow.
 
I want to thank all my playing buddies: Chris, Frank, Gunnar, Zsolt, Steinar, Hungry John, Bøggen, Bård, Beinet, Pytten, Ronny, Hans Petter, Mykle,  ,my friend and manager Stig Nedreberg, Joe and Michael (German management), everybody in N3 and Fuzz Faces.  Thanks also to all my students and my nice colleagues at Voss Gymnas, where I started teaching guitar this fall.

06/12 2012: ROLLING CLONES CELEBRATION

THE ROLLING CLONES CELEBRATE THEIR 30TH ANNIVERSARY AT MADAM FELLE'S DECEMBER 14 AND 15
 
The Rolling Clones made their first appearance on June 5 1982 when they staged a pre-party to the Rolling Stones concerts in Gothenburg, Sweden, that took place two weeks later.
They take pride in being a tribute band  from before the term even excisted.
 
The Rolling Clones' lineup development has been remarkably similar to that of their mentors - from the original band the singer (Bård Ose), guitarist (Mads) and drummer (Erik "Bøggen" Bergesen) are still there, whereas Pytten (bass) and Beinet (guitar) have joined later.
 
We think this will be a hilarious Christmas party and maybe some kind of substitute for everyone who couldn't get tickets to the Stones' shows in London in November. The tickets are a little bit cheaper to...

31/10 2012: A MESSAGE FROM MADS

Hi all,
 
just came back from a great tour with Chris Thompson in Germany. This tour is probably the most enjoyable I've ever done, all the shows went great and everything went smoothly. The audiences were wonderful everywhere, and it is amazing to see quite a lot of people turning up to see us numerous times. Our friend Heiko, for instance, came to 7 shows!! I feel really fortunate to work with such hard-working, dedicated and talented guys as Chris, Frank, Gunnar and Zsolt (the band) and the people we have with us: Joe, Michael, Andreas, Matthias and Graeme.
 
A personal highlight for me was the concert in Buchholz on my big 5-0 birthday, when the whole audience sang Happy Birthday for me during the encores. I also had some really good days off in Berlin in the middle of the tour and my wife Mona came down and we were real tourists - long walks, museum-visiting and sightseeing uinterrupted by sound-checks!
 
Thanks to all the nice people who came to our shows, we'll love to come back soon! Things are looking good for the next year, gigs are starting to come in and there might be another tour in April/May. Hope to have more details soon.

MADAM FELLE GIGS MOVED; GERMAN DATES COMING IN

The annual gigs with Chris Thompson and Mads Eriksen Band at Madam Felle's in Bergen had to be moved from May 4/5 as announced earlier, to June 1 and 2.

Quite a few German gigs are confirmed up until late October - it means that Mads can stop worrying  about how to celebrate his birthday this year, it will be business as usual with Chris and the boys on stage at the Empore in the charming city of Buchholz.

The Rolling Clones, who will celebrate their 30th anniversay this year, are booked in at Madam Felle's on March 23 and 24.
